Occupy Nanaimo Eco March

For too long our environment has fallen to the bottom of priority lists. The 1% has been marginalizing our ecosystems more and more every year. Despite the efforts of groups around the world the message is not getting through to them. The need for them to wake up and realize that this isn’t some petty issue to dance around is now. This is about the futures of our children. Should they be subjected to the mistakes of others. Or perhaps they should be given the chances that we had, and even more. As we begin 2012 we are presented with an opportunity for change, 2011 was the year that the silent majority, the 99%, found their voice. 2012 needs to be the year where we use it. On Saturday January 14th 2012 come down to Diana Krall Plaza and join us as Occupy Nanaimo speaks out against the environmental destruction. Even in our small city we watch as developers get their pick of choice real estate without consideration of the ecosystems they destroy. We watch as our old growth forests get cut down and shipped over seas. Simply because it turns a better profit. Together our voice can be louder, join us as we speak up for the unspoken. Together we can save the only home we will ever have.
When: Saturday, January 14th @3:00 Pm

Occupy Nanaimo’s Winter of Discontent
On December 9th 2011 Occupy Nanaimo was evicted from Diana Krall Plaza. After Battling as hard as we could in court the injunction was awarded. Even with this on our shoulders we did not let it seem like a loss. We have taken this winter to recuperate and plan. Now this Saturday Occupy Nanaimo is back in Diana Krall Plaza. Our tents are gone, the injunction preventing us from building structures, but we are still here, our passion still here, and this need for change is growing every day. 2012 represents the year of change that this Globe needs. This opportunity cannot be missed. Come out to our rally, Bring your friends, your family, bring your signs, and your passion. Now is the Winter of our Discontent and we, the people, the silent majority of the world, will not let our voices be ignored any longer.
When: Saturday, January 7th, 2012 @ 3:00 Pm (15:00)
Where: Diana Krall Plaza
What: Occupy Nanaimo’s first March of 2012
Mahatma Ghandi once said “Be the change that you want to see in the world,” Let’s show them the change we seek.
Occupy the Holidays
This is something everyone can do…

A bunch of these posters have been printed and are available for distribution. Email ShowEmail to find out where you can pick some up. You can also download the flyer and print your own. The idea is to plaster these in the malls, chain stores, banks, ATMs – get creative. This can be done individually or in groups. You can sneak them into the stalls in the bathrooms and change rooms or plaster them on the walls and doors of the building with everyone watching. You could even take pictures when you post them and share them on the facebook page. Please do not to put them on car windshields as they get thrown on the ground and create a mess – we don’t want that to be our holiday message. A big thank you to Nicole for the graphic design and Dani at Print Three for the printing.
Occupy BC Ferry Terminals
First of all an apology for the short notice, but if we had made this
public too soon it would have lead too this not going through as
planned. The BC ferries protest is happening because we, the people of
Vancouver Island and the west coast of British Columbia, want our
marine highways back. Through our lifetimes we have watched the cost
of the ferries skyrocket. This is a necessity that many people rely on
for their lives and employment. As of Monday December 12th the cost of
the ferries will rise again. In April of 2012 the Contract for the BC
Ferries will expire and will again have the chance to take back our
Ferries. We are calling out to the people of Vancouver Island and the
City of Nanaimo to join us in the fight for the return of our marine
highways to the people and municipalities that should govern them.
This is not a onetime action; these actions will be continuing
throughout the winter and beginning of the spring. Our voice will no
longer be pushed aside for the greed of the corporate big shots.
Arrive early for briefing. Drop ins welcome all day.
Monday December 12th
Meet us at Brekin Boat Launch 08:00am
Then again at Diana Krall Plaza at 3:00pm for Gabriola Ferry Protest
In solidarity with the Port actions along the West Coast and Occupiers
everywhere.

Please stay posted to our website, Occupynanaimo.ca as these ongoing
actions develop.
