The final appointments (volunteers) for Our New Co-op's Steering Committee are due tomorrow (Thursday February 16). Email me NOW if you want to: create jobs, ensure access to local food and other products, help bring about a just and democratic economy.

We still need:
A Treasurer / Bookkeeper - Should be able to set up and maintain books (we have an accountant confirmed)
An Artisan - to represent the point of view of potential suppliers (future workers)
A Vice Chair - to coordinate if Chair is not available
An Environmentalist - to ensure best practices
We could use:
Lawyer
Lender's point of view

We have confirmed the following (positions suggested):

Chair Larry Whaley
Secretary Larry Gambone
Research Tanis Laird & Chris Semrick
Business Plan	Jess Anderson
Producer rep	Dirk Becker
Membership	Ivo Beitsma
Accountant Claudio Addis

The ON Co-op's plan calls for a Steering Committee (interim board) to be set up by next Thursday (Feb 16). This committee will over see and coordinate the Co-op's development until the first official board is elected - the plans says by March 27. It will establish the Co-op's Rules, set membership fees and/or share prices and establish other basic ground rules. While these rules can be changed later most of them will govern the co-op's activities for some time to come. The committee should have at least 7 members.

Most of the work will be done on line but some face time may be needed.

Who do you think should be on the Steering Committee?

Contact me if you are willing to serve or want to suggest someone.

I think the idea of this comes from the right place but knowing quite alot about the company whoever made this is missing some key points.

1. The first and most obvious, To change anything about ferries you are better off to go to the head office located in Victoria and protest there.

2. The reasons you pay more for the ferry now then you did previously is due to a few reasons the major one being the cost of fuel the next being the 5 major vessels and several minor vessels purchased in the last few years thirdly there is about double the number of managers needed the last reason is ferry ridership is down and the only routes that make money are the 2 nanaimo to vancouver runs the victoria to vancouver run and mill bay brentwood bay ferry the rest of the costs are mopped up by TAXPAYERS money BC ferries is given a subsidy by the government to keep all the runs going to the gulf islands and up north that lose money this subsidy is in the tune of 100 million so if you dont pay for it when you go on you pay in taxes....

If anyone has any questions dont hesitate to ask but if someone feels like starting more childish protests about operations they know nothing of go join a union.
